The story
Laxmanrao Kirloskar opened a bicycle repair shop in Belgaum in 1888. In 1903 he made an iron plough; farmers were slow to trust it at first, but it became the group's first product.
In 1910 he built a factory on open land that grew into the township of Kirloskarwadi. His son Shantanurao led the move into diesel engines, pumps and compressors, often with foreign partners.
Today separate Kirloskar companies make pumps, engines, compressors and castings. The largest pump maker, Kirloskar Brothers, reported consolidated revenue of ₹4,538 crore in FY26.
