The story

T.V. Sundram Iyengar started a bus service in Madurai in 1911. Running buses taught the family about vehicles, spare parts and finance, and the business grew into dealerships and transport.

From servicing vehicles the family moved into making parts, often with foreign partners, and then into making two-wheelers. The TVS 50 moped of 1980 brought motorised travel to many small-town families.

Different branches of the family now run separate companies under the TVS name. The largest, TVS Motor, reported its highest-ever revenue of ₹47,270 crore in 2025-26.
