§1What this business is

Medical-grade PVC pellets are extruded and blown into film, cut to size and welded into bags with tubing fitted in the die. The bags are steam-sterilised at 115–120°C for 30–60 minutes, tested (they must survive down to –70°C) and packed. The report covers single bags; double and triple bags separate blood into plasma, red cells and platelets. All work happens in a clean, contamination-free area.

Capacity: 800 bags a day, 2,40,000 a year at full capacity (8 hours, 300 days); 45% in year 1.

§2Is it right for you?

Who it is for

A technically trained founder (pharma, plastics or biomedical) who can run a clean room and a medical quality system.

Who it is not for

A first-time founder without regulatory experience or access to hospital buyers.

Advantages

  • Steady demand from blood banks and hospitals
  • Few machines (₹13.50 lakh)
  • Net margin rises from 7.7% to 16.4% in the report
  • Low break-even (27%)

Drawbacks

  • Needs a CDSCO (DCGI) licence and a strict quality system before selling
  • Any contamination can harm patients and end the business
  • Buyers are institutions with long approval and tender cycles
  • Large established makers dominate supply

Skills you need

  • Film extrusion and RF/PVC welding
  • Sterilisation and clean-room practice
  • Medical-device regulation and documentation
  • Tendering with hospitals and blood banks

Why difficulty 5/5: Medical-device licensing, sterility and institutional selling make this hard for a beginner.
