The story

Deepinder Goyal wrote the first line of code for Foodiebay, which became Zomato, on 23 December 2007. The company Zomato Limited was incorporated in 2010.

Zomato grew into food delivery and later acquired the quick-commerce business Blinkit. Inside the company, the name 'Eternal' was used to separate the company from the Zomato app.

On 23 December 2024, exactly 17 years after that first line of code, Zomato entered the BSE Sensex, which Goyal called a first for an Indian tech startup. In February 2025 the board approved renaming the company Eternal Ltd, covering four businesses: Zomato, Blinkit, District and Hyperpure. The Zomato app kept its name.
