    §8Pros and cons

    Merits

    • India consumes far more NR than it produces (14,10,000 t vs 8,75,000 t in 2024-25), so domestic demand is steady [Rubber Board 2025]
    • General rubber goods consumption grew 24.7% in Apr-Jul 2025 even as auto-tyre use fell [Rubber Board Sep 2025]
    • Moulded parts can start with small presses and serve local OEMs

    Demerits

    • Raw-material prices are volatile: RSS-4 average price rose from 15,572 to 19,985 Rs/100kg between 2023-24 and 2024-25 [Rubber Board 2025]
    • Dependence on imported NR (5,50,918 t in 2024-25) and on synthetic rubber [Rubber Board 2025]
    • Tyres need BIS certification and large capital - not a small-founder product
    • Auto-tyre demand swings with vehicle sales
