The story
The company began in 1945 as a steel trading firm. Within a few years it was assembling jeeps, and the rugged jeep became the base for its utility vehicles.
From vehicles it moved to tractors, a natural fit for rural India, and then to finance for buyers of those vehicles and tractors. In 1986 an IT joint venture with British Telecom started what became Tech Mahindra.
The group's 2025-26 annual report counts more than 3,27,000 employees and a presence in over 100 countries.
