§1What this business is
Rolls of 12 GSM polypropylene spun-bond non-woven fabric are fed into an automatic bouffant-cap machine that folds the fabric, fixes the elastic by ultrasonic sealing and cuts caps in 18, 19, 21 or 24-inch sizes. The caps are packed and sent out. They keep hair contained in surgeries, food service, food processing and electronics clean rooms. Each 18-inch cap weighs 2.30 grams.
Capacity: 650 packets a day on a 10-hour shift (the machine runs 60–120 pieces a minute); 65% capacity in year 1.
§2Is it right for you?
Who it is for
Someone with links to hospitals, pharma or food factories, or to medical-supply distributors.
Who it is not for
Someone without bulk buyers; small retail sales will not cover costs.
Advantages
- One automatic machine does most of the work
- Low power need (7 KW)
- Hygiene rules keep demand steady in hospitals and food units
- Same fabric supply as masks and shoe covers
Drawbacks
- Thin margin; fabric is about two-thirds of sales
- High break-even (55%)
- Many sellers; buyers choose on price
- Demand spikes and falls with health scares
Skills you need
- Machine setting for different cap sizes
- Buying non-woven fabric at good rates
- Hygienic packing
- Tendering and distributor sales
Why difficulty 2/5: One machine and simple raw material; selling in bulk at a fair price is the challenge.
§3Market
Who buys
- Hospitals and surgical teams
- Food-service outlets and food-processing units
- Pharma and electronics clean rooms
How it sells
