§1What this business is

The stimulator sends small electric pulses (about 80 Hz) through electrodes to nerves and muscles to ease pain and help stiff muscles move. It gives five current types — galvanic, interrupted galvanic, faradic, surged faradic and TENS — with a 0–99 minute digital timer and LCD display. You test incoming parts, solder the circuit boards, fit them in moulded cases with the display and controls, check the pulse output and pack.

Capacity: Installed for 5,000 four-channel and 4,000 two-channel units a year; sales are worked out on 3,000 of each.

§2Is it right for you?

Who it is for

An electronics or biomedical engineer with contacts among physiotherapists and medical dealers.

Who it is not for

Someone without technical staff or the patience for medical-device rules.

Advantages

  • Physiotherapy and home-care use is growing
  • Assembly work — no heavy machinery
  • After-sales service keeps customers coming back

Drawbacks

  • A medical device — CDSCO licensing and a quality system are needed
  • Low-cost imported units compete
  • Needs trained electronics staff

Skills you need

  • Electronic circuit assembly and testing
  • Medical-device quality systems
  • Selling to physiotherapists and dealers

Why difficulty 4/5: Electronics skill plus medical-device regulation.

§3Market

Who buys

  • Physiotherapy clinics
  • Hospitals and nursing homes
  • Medical equipment dealers
  • Patients for home use

How it sells

  • Medical equipment dealers
  • Direct sales to clinics with after-sales service
  • Exports

Good to know

  • The profile says only a few MSMEs make this product and sees room for more, at home and for export.

  • Confirm the 8-digit ITC(HS) line with DGFT or your customs broker before shipping.
  • You need an Import Export Code (IEC) from DGFT before the first shipment.

§9Risks — where people fail

  • Not meeting medical-device rules
  • Patient safety complaints
  • Dependence on imported components

§1030 / 60 / 90-day plan

A general plan that applies to any business. A plan for this business will be added after research.

  1. Days 1–30: Visit a working digital muscle stimulator (physiotherapy equipment) unit, ask 10 buyers about price and quantity, and get quotations from 3 suppliers.
  2. Days 31–60: Udyam and the licences you need (Udyam registration, GST registration), a project report (DPR), and the scheme or loan file.
  3. Days 61–90: Space and machines, trial production, and first deliveries to 10 customers.
