§1What this business is

This unit does not weave fabric. It buys PP woven rolls, prints the buyer's name, logo and dates on a flexo printer, cuts the roll to size and stitches the bags. Woven PP sacks pack food grains, sugar, cement, fertiliser, chemicals and plastic granules.

Capacity: 40,000 bags (1,000 kg) a day — 3,00,000 kg a year of input, 2,85,000 kg of output after 5% waste; year 1 at 50%.

§2Is it right for you?

Who it is for

A trader already supplying sacks to mills, cement dealers or fertiliser agents.

Who it is not for

Someone who cannot fund ₹20 L or more of rolling stock.

Advantages

  • Steady bulk demand from grain, sugar, cement and fertiliser users
  • No weaving line needed, so machinery costs less
  • Printing adds value for branded buyers
  • Strong, reusable product

Drawbacks

  • Very thin margin on a large turnover
  • Large working capital locked in rolls
  • The report notes jute packaging rules hold down demand in some sectors
  • Price competition from large sack makers that weave their own fabric

Skills you need

  • Flexo printing set-up
  • Cutting and stitching quality
  • Buying rolls at the right price
  • Bulk selling and collections

Why difficulty 3/5: Simple machines, but very large working capital and thin margins.

§3Market

Who buys

  • Flour, rice and sugar mills
  • Cement and fertiliser companies and dealers
  • Chemical and plastic-granule makers

How it sells

  • Direct supply to mills and factories
  • Sack traders

Good to know

  • About 40 bags weigh 1 kg in the report's sample product.
  • The report sells bags at ₹135 per kg in year 1.

§5Licences & registration

  1. Udyam registration
  2. GST
  3. Fire and pollution NOC as required
  4. Check whether a BIS Quality Control Order applies to the type of sack you supply (for example cement or fertiliser sacks)

We can do this registration for you

§6Schemes & subsidies

₹50 L sits exactly at PMEGP's manufacturing ceiling; CGTMSE for collateral-free credit; Stand-Up India for SC/ST and women. MUDRA covers only up to ₹20 L.

§7Money

How the investment is worked out: Plant & machinery ₹26.43 L (3-colour flexo printer ₹11 L + cutting machine ₹10.50 L + 5 sewing machines ₹0.90 L + 18% GST) + furniture ₹1.35 L + working capital ₹22.22 L = ₹50 L (term loan ₹25 L, working-capital limit ₹20 L, own ₹5 L). Premises rented.

Working capital: ₹22.22 L — the largest part of the project (bank limit ₹20 L), because PP rolls are costly stock.
