§1What this business is
Extruded aluminium sections bought from large producers or their dealers are buffed, pickled, anodised in colour, washed and dried, then cut, bent, screwed or riveted and assembled with glass or board, handles, locks and stoppers to the customer's design. Offices, shops, hotels, theatres and homes use them because they look good and need almost no maintenance. A small version runs with only drills and grinders and no anodising plant.
Capacity: Samadhan: 15 sq m a day; 4,500 sq m a year at full capacity (60% in year 1 to 80% in year 5). KVIC: production worth ₹9.97 L at cost a year.
§2Is it right for you?
Who it is for
A fabricator or carpenter with builder and contractor contacts.
Who it is not for
Someone without site-work skills or local construction links.
Advantages
- Every new office, shop and home needs doors, windows and railings
- Can start very small (₹2.65 lakh) and add anodising later
- Work is made to order — little unsold stock
- Good gross margin (about 24–26% in the Samadhan report)
Drawbacks
- Demand moves with local construction activity
- uPVC and steel products compete
- Anodising uses acids and needs pollution consent
- Site measurement errors cost money
Skills you need
- Measuring and fabrication
- Anodising (for the larger unit)
- Glass and hardware fitting
- Quoting and site management
Why difficulty 2/5: Common trade with simple tools; anodising adds some chemical work.
§3Market
Who buys
- Office, business and shopping complexes
- Hotels, restaurants, theatres and auditoriums
- Homes
- Textile and trading shops (shelving)
How it sells
- Builders and contractors
- Direct orders from owners
- Architects and interior designers
Good to know
- The reports say aluminium is replacing wood in doors, windows and railings because it needs almost no maintenance.
