§1What this business is

GI strip is punched on a power press into barbed tape, crimped onto GI core wire and wound into coils of 2 ft, 2.5 ft or other diameters, then clipped into a spring form. The coils stretch out into an instant fence. Buyers are builders, factories, warehouses, farms, nurseries, railways, airports, defence and other government sites.

Capacity: 100 rolls a day, 30,000 rolls a year at full capacity (8 kg of raw material per roll). The report plans 50% use in year 1 rising to 70%.

§2Is it right for you?

Who it is for

Someone with links to builders, fencing contractors or government tenders.

Who it is not for

Someone who cannot handle tender paperwork or wait for payments.

Advantages

  • Demand from construction, security fencing and government sites
  • Simple mechanical process — punch, crimp, coil
  • GI strip and wire are easy to buy
  • Coils pack flat and travel easily

Drawbacks

  • Gross margin only about 13–15% in the report
  • Steel and zinc prices swing
  • Big orders come through tenders with slow payment

Skills you need

  • Power press and die handling
  • Steel buying
  • Tender and contractor sales

Why difficulty 3/5: Simple machines, but steel prices and tender-driven sales need care.
