What it is
Round hot-rolled steel rod in coils. It is drawn into wire for nails, mesh, fencing, springs, fasteners and welding electrodes.

Rules before you buy or sell
- BIS Standard Mark (ISI) is compulsory under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024: IS 7887:1992, IS 7904:2018, IS 2879, IS 11169, IS 280 (wire) and others. Each consignment needs a test certificate from a BIS-licensed maker.
- The 2026 amendment put enforcement of serial numbers 23 (IS 2879) and 129 in Schedule 1 on hold for 3 years from 20 June 2026.
- Check the current import and export policy for your exact 8-digit HS code in the DGFT ITC(HS) schedules.
Storage and handling
Keep coils dry and off the floor; surface rust spoils drawing.
