The story
Potters in villages near Gorakhpur, such as Aurangabad, are known for hand-built terracotta horses and elephants with fine applied decoration. The clay from local ponds and the simple open firing give the work its reddish colour. Terracotta is one of Gorakhpur's ODOP products and has a GI tag.
