The story
Mau is an old weaving town in eastern Uttar Pradesh where handloom weaving gave way to powerlooms in homes and small sheds. Families weave sarees and fabrics that are sold through traders in Varanasi and markets across North India. The Mau saree has a GI tag, and powerloom textile is the district's ODOP product.
