The story
SIIDCUL's Pantnagar estate, carved out of land near the agricultural university, drew Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and Ashok Leyland in the mid-2000s under the hill-state tax package. Vendors set up next to the plants so parts could reach assembly lines within hours. Rudrapur grew from a market town into an industrial city. New industrial areas are being developed nearby at Sitarganj and Khurpia as land at Pantnagar runs out.
