The story
Haridwar's industrial estate was built by SIIDCUL after the 2003 central industrial package for Uttarakhand and Himachal offered tax breaks to new factories. Big FMCG, pharma and auto companies set up plants, and vendor and packaging units followed. Ayurvedic and herbal companies also grew in and around Haridwar. When the tax breaks ended, growth slowed, but the estate remains Uttarakhand's main manufacturing base.
