Trade agreement

India–EU FTA →No trade agreement in force yet. India–EU FTA talks concluded in January 2026; signing and entry into force are pending. Until then normal EU tariffs apply.

Their import rules

  • EU-wide rules apply: CE marking for regulated products (machinery, electricals, toys, PPE), EU pesticide residue limits (MRLs) for food, and REACH registration for chemicals. Check product-wise requirements on EU Access2Markets.
  • Plants, fruit and vegetables need an Indian phytosanitary certificate; food of animal origin can enter only from EU-listed Indian establishments.
  • Food safety checks in Belgium are done by the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC / AFSCA-FAVV); Antwerp is a main EU entry port and diamond trading hub.
  • Check new SPS (food, plant, animal health) and TBT (product standards) notices for this market on India Trade Portal before you ship.

How to find buyers

  • Register on the Department of Commerce Trade Connect e-platform (trade.gov.in) to get trade enquiries and reach the Indian mission's commerce wing.
  • Join your Export Promotion Council (EPC) and apply for its buyer–seller meets and India pavilions at fairs in this country; MAI scheme support may cover part of the cost.
  • Write to the commerce wing of the Indian embassy or high commission with your product, HS code and catalogue; ask for importer lists and trade enquiries.
  • The embassy in Brussels also handles India's relations with the EU, so it is a good contact for EU-wide market questions.
  • Batibouw in Brussels is the main building and home-improvement fair.
