Where imports come from
Production 5,360 thousand tonnes against consumption of 8,697 thousand tonnes in 2025-26 (PPAC, provisional); the rest is imported.
Rules before you buy or sell
- Road work tenders specify paving bitumen to IS 73; bitumen drums for packing are under a BIS QCO (IS 3575).
- Hot-mix and emulsion plants need State Pollution Control Board consent.
Storage and handling
Store in heated tanks or drums; handle hot bitumen with face shield and heat-proof gloves.
