The government is making this product the identity of the district — clusters, training, marketing and export support go to it first. Starting a business in this product is often the easiest route.

§4Subsidy zone

Zone254 industrially backward blocks (Annexure II)

Blocks / areas: Alanganallur, T.Kallupatti, Chellampatti, Thirumangalam, Kalligudi, Thirupparankundram, Kottampatti, Usilampatti, Madurai East, Vadipatti, Sedapatti

Small and medium manufacturing units get 25% capital subsidy (max Rs.150 lakh), payroll subsidy and 50% stamp duty/registration reimbursement on land only in these blocks (or in Govt/SIPCOT/TANSIDCO estates). Micro units get capital subsidy anywhere. Agro-based units qualify in all 388 blocks.

  • District Industries Centre (DIC), Madurai — files for state subsidy schemes and ODOP go here; DIC is also an implementing agency for PMEGP.
  • Lead District Manager (LDM) — coordinates the banks in the district; meet them if your loan is stuck.
  • Udyam Registration (udyamregistration.gov.in) — free on the government portal.
