The story
Ahmedabad's textile mills created a local market for dyes, and small chemical units came up in the GIDC estates at Vatva and Naroda to supply them. Over time these units began exporting dyes and intermediates to Europe and East Asia. The estates rely on shared effluent treatment, and pollution control is a constant issue.
