The story
Long before tiles took over, Morbi was known across India for its wall clocks. Small family firms assemble movements, plastic cases and dials, and much of the assembly work is done by women. The same plastic-moulding and assembly skills now also make gift and decorative items.
In numbers
Morbi has nearly 150 to 200 wall clock and gift article units employing around 10,000 to 12,000 people, nearly 60% of them women (Gujarat government, January 2026).
Morbi emerges as global ceramic hub, contributing 90 pc of India's exports (IANS, citing Gujarat government) · 2026
