The story
Ahmedabad's foundries at Odhav and nearby estates grew to supply the city's textile machinery, pump and engineering makers. Most are small units that melt iron and pour castings for local machine shops. Raw material prices, labour and finance are their main concerns.

The Ahmedabad foundry cluster had 700 units, Rs 1,800 crore turnover, Rs 200 crore exports and 10,000 workers (district profile, c. 2012).
