The story
The Sukinda valley in Jajpur holds most of India's chromite, the ore used to make ferro-chrome for stainless steel. Ferro-alloy plants came up nearby, and the Kalinganagar industrial complex later drew several large steel plants. Ancillary engineering, transport and service units have grown around them.
In numbers
The chromite deposits of this area constitute 88.32% of the total chromite in Odisha and 75.6% in India.
