The story
The Talcher coalfield gave Angul cheap fuel, which drew National Aluminium Company's smelter and captive power plant in the 1980s. Thermal power stations, steel plants and fertiliser units followed, making the belt one of Odisha's main industrial zones. Smaller fabrication and engineering units serve the big plants.
