The story
Jamshedpur was founded around the steel works started by the Tata group, the first integrated steel plant in India, set up in 1907–08 near the iron ore of Singhbhum and Odisha and the coal of Jharia. The planned company town grew with Tata Motors (then TELCO) and many supplier units. Jharkhand remains one of India's leading steel states.
