The story
Nirmal craft is linked to the Naqash artisans who settled in the town in the 17th century under local rulers. They carve the light local wood called poniki and paint it with herbal colours and a lacquer finish. The craft later spread to paintings on wood and decorated furniture. Nirmal Toys and Craft, Nirmal Paintings and Nirmal Furniture all carry GI tags.
