The story
Pochampally and nearby villages such as Koyalagudem and Puttapaka weave ikat, where the yarn is tied and dyed in the pattern before weaving. The craft grew from the older telia rumal tradition of the region. Pochampally is also where Acharya Vinoba Bhave began the Bhoodan land-gift movement in 1951, which gave the village its full name. Pochampalli Ikat was among the first products registered under India's GI law, in 2004-05.
