The story
The Thane–Belapur (TTC) industrial belt was developed by MIDC from the 1960s as Mumbai's industry spilled across the creek. Large paint and chemical companies set up plants here, and many small paint makers grew around them, buying pigments and solvents from local traders. The small units formed a cluster through the Indian Small Scale Paint Association.
In numbers
The Paint, Enamel & Varnish Cluster at TTC Industrial Area, Mahape (SPV: Indian Small Scale Paint Association) had 200 functional units, a turnover of about Rs 100 crore and employment of 3,775.
