The story
MIDC developed the Tarapur industrial area near Boisar in the 1970s, next to the Tarapur atomic power station and on the western railway line north of Mumbai. Cheap land and closeness to Mumbai and Gujarat drew chemical, bulk-drug, textile-processing and steel units. It is now one of the largest MIDC estates, part of Palghar district since 2014.
In numbers
