Rules before you buy or sell
- Farm-gate trade usually goes through a state APMC mandi or e-NAM; the state's market fee and trader licence rules apply.
- FSSAI licence or registration is needed to process, pack, store or sell it as food (Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006).
- Ripening with calcium carbide is banned; use ethylene in ripening chambers as per FSSAI guidance.
- Fresh mango exports to markets like the USA, EU and Japan need APEDA-recognised pack houses and treatment (irradiation, hot water or vapour heat) as the buyer country requires.
Storage and handling
Harvest mature-green, pre-cool, ripen in ethylene chambers; pulp is aseptically packed or frozen.
