What it is
The brown layer removed when rice is polished. Solvent plants extract rice bran oil from it; de-oiled bran goes into cattle and poultry feed.

Rules before you buy or sell
- Import and export are governed by the ITC(HS) policy; check the current DGFT notification before you sign a contract, because policy for farm goods changes often.
- FSSAI licence or registration is needed to process, pack, store or sell it as food (Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006).

Raw bran turns rancid within days; stabilise or send to the solvent plant fast.
