The story

The hills around Udaipur and Rishabhdev hold green and coloured marble, and gang-saw and polishing units grew along the highways near the quarries. Udaipur's units cut blocks into slabs and tiles for builders across India and abroad. Stone carvers in Rishabhdev also make handicrafts.

In numbers

  1. The Udaipur marble cluster had about 120 gang-saw units and 450 polishing units, Rs 2,000 crore turnover, exports of about Rs 500-700 crore, and 3,000 direct and 2,500 indirect workers (district profile 2015-16).
