The story
Jaipur's carpet weaving grew from royal workshops and later spread to villages around the city, where weavers work on looms at home. Exporters supply designs and wool, and finish, wash and ship the carpets abroad. Rajasthan's wool supply has supported the trade.

Woollen carpet manufacturing is localised in Jaipur, and most units export; annual exports of woollen carpets were Rs 273.16 crore (state profile 2015-16).
