The story
Jaipur's rulers invited gem cutters and jewellers when the city was founded, and Johari Bazaar has traded stones ever since. Today Jaipur is the world's leading centre for cutting coloured gemstones, using rough from Africa, Brazil and elsewhere. Export units cluster in the Sitapura SEZ and EPIP, and GJEPC is building a gem bourse there.
