The story
Uppada is a coastal village near Kakinada where weavers adopted the jamdani technique, in which motifs are woven in by hand with extra weft threads. The sarees are very light silk with gold and silver zari designs and no visible float threads on the back. They became popular wedding and festive wear across India. Uppada Jamdani Sarees carry a GI tag.
