The story
Venkatagiri weaving developed under the patronage of the Velugoti rulers of Venkatagiri in the 18th century, who wanted fine cloth for the royal family. Weavers make very fine cotton sarees with zari borders and jamdani-style motifs. The sarees are prized for their softness in hot weather. Venkatagiri Sarees carry a GI tag.
